Alaska Pursues Suite of Reforms to Expand Career and Technical Education Programming

The Alaska Department of Education and Early Development (DEED) is using $1.3 million in ARP funds to improve Career and Technical Education across the state, broadening programs at local, regional, and state levels in a comprehensive suite of investments. The department has outlined investments that include a resource clearinghouse ($200,000), skills camps ($900,000 for 30 camps across the state), data portal upgrades ($100,000), and regional collaborative grants ($25,000 for each of four regions).

We are spotlighting this practice because it is a comprehensive package of investments designed to support educators, school districts, and regions.

I’m encouraged by the focus on CTE and the local incentives for regional collaborations. I hope the resource clearinghouse will include indicators of quality.
